OK rule 101 on blogging, as I keep reminding myself, is DO NOT write anything you don’t want to appear on the front page of the Wall Street Journal. Its a fine line I’m learning to walk in sharing opinions with people you work with, know directly, or are having a contextual dialog vs. anyone on the Internet. I’m getting better at it … so hopefully as my posts progress I’ll continue to find my “public” voice. I’m also using this site as a mini website so poke around on other pages too besides the blog!
Two seconds on my background …
I’ve been in high tech sales and marketing my whole career. Started off as a bag carrying salesman for Burroughs and then after the merger with Sperry Univac became an employee of Unisys. I stayed in the financial systems side of the business selling mainframes and enterprise software to large regional banks until I joined Cabletron in early 1992.
Following 6 years running many of the largest projects and programs at Cabletron, I went from the networking systems side of the business to the semiconductor market. Moved my entire family (three boys under 5, 9 year old dog, and a very patient wife) to Boulder Colorado to join my first true start-up.
I ran marketing at Sitera and worked with the team to develop an exciting new category in the communications semiconductor market called “Network Processors”. Well it worked and we were bought for a lot of money by Vitesse in 2001. I stayed with them running marketing for the largest division and then did a few more start-ups including Pannaway, Zagros, Stargen and most recently Lightstorm Networks … all running the sales, marketing, or business development functions.
Bottom line … I love marketing, communications, meeting customers, category creation, software, baseball, running, wine and just hanging out with my three boys (Chris, Brian, and Brendan) and my wife Sharon.
